Let’s face it: England, at least since the last World Cup triumph in 1966, has been an eternal disappointment in international football. Sure, over the years, England football shirts have been worn by legendary players such as Stephen Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, Gary Lineker, and David Beckham. But, unfortunately, the results have never quite lived up to expectations. Yes, the national team came close to a massive upset in 2020, when it reached the final of the European Championship, and four years later, in 2024, when it lost against Spain. But overall, the performances of the national team have never quite met supporters’ expectations.
